Huntertones’ new album Engine Co. takes a simplified approach; six songs tracked together in the live room of Atomic Studios in Brooklyn, NY. Playing off of each other’s sonic and emotional nuances in tight quarters has always been the core of the Huntertones engine. That engine is on full display in the form of three new original songs “Biff”, “Stede”, and “For Roy”, an update on “No Look” from the 2021 album Time To Play, and fresh arrangements of two classics from legendary New Orleans supergroup, The Meters. This record serves as a reminder both to Huntertones and their listeners that the best way to get to the heart of any song is simply in the moment.

Brooklyn, NY 4/7/23 - Huntertones is excited to announce the release of their next project, Engine Co. After a 2 year hiatus from recording, the band took a more simplified approach and tracked six songs in the live room of Atomic Studios, a picturesque space residing at the former Van Brunt Street Fire House in Brooklyn, NY. Live takes, no headphones, just the band in a small space making music together. Playing off of each other’s sonic and emotional nuances in tight quarters has always been at the core of the Huntertones engine. That engine is on full display in the form of three new original songs (“Biff”, “Stede”, “For Roy”), an update on their song “No Look” from the 2021 album Time To Play, as well as fresh arrangements of two classic tunes from legendary New Orleans supergroup, The Meters (“Cissy Strut”, “Thinking”).
“Biff” is an ode to funk, calling upon the spirits of Quincy Jones and Prince written by saxophonist Dan White. Trombonist Chris Ott’s tune “Stede” grabs the listener and throws them on top of a classic shuffle groove that turns into a full out rhythmic adventure. “For Roy” is trumpeter Jon Lampley’s tribute to the great Roy Hargrove, capturing the late legend’s soulful spirit and jovial sound that has inspired musicians and audiences across generations. The horns sail on top of the ever solid foundation of John Hubbell on drums, Josh Hill on guitar, and Adam DeAscentis on bass.
Engine Co. serves as a reminder both to Huntertones and their listeners that the best way to get to the heart of any song is to capture it simply, honestly, and in the moment.
